What I Wore/ Vested Interest

Happy Wednesday everyone! Another week, another outfit. I will admit this week I was not grooving with the outfit choices in my closet. It might be about that time for a Fall wardrobe “pick-me-up” to add some UMPH into my closet. But really..do you ever have those days that you simply cannot find a single thing to get excited about? Then inevitably there are about 12 pairs of pants on the ground piled on top of blouses, shoes and jackets? It looked like a bomb went off before I decided on an outfit.  I need to invest in a few staple pieces to switch out with my more basic items that I currently have a good hold on. This vest is one of the pieces I love to throw over most shirt styles to spruce them up a bit.   Details: Vest: Kensie Top: Loft Bottoms: Nordstrom Shoes: Steve Madden  Necklace: Madewell  Thanks […]

Weekend Rundown

It always makes it hard to accept it’s Monday when the weekend before was really, really good. This weekend was chock full of activities with friends, family and as always, cuddles with Bailey. I am feeling especially thankful and blessed this morning and what better way to share in some of the activities than with pictures?  Friday night was laid back after getting home late and wanting nothing more than to relax after the week with this one above. It still amazes me how she loves nothing more than to veg out on the couch and nestle in my legs. Whoever said this breed is vicious needs to spend an evening with a Pitbull.  Mom and Pop’s Coffee Shop has the best coffee and pastries for a perfect Saturday morning start to the weekend. Saturday morning started with a stroll around Mosaic District by our house with a coffee, some shopping […]

Smooth Lemon Garlic Hummus

Hummus is my happy food. Give me a bowl of hummus with pita and I’m happy as a clam. It’s simple, delicious and very easy to make in your own kitchen. The best thing about hummus is that you can so easily tweak and change the ingredients to make it your own. But first, you must have a good base recipe.  I have tried Olive Hummus, Roasted Red Pepper Hummus and even Spicy Hummus but all of these start with a few ingredients. I am sharing my “base” hummus with you today because it’s the most classic and then you can modify your taste preference from there.  Garlic, Garlic and more Garlic. I wish it were its own food group.  The process of “shelling” or de-membraning (I’m sure that’s not a word but you get the point) the chickpeas can be quite tedious but it’s VERY much worth the time to get […]

Top 5 Best Bites in St. John, USVI

I like to eat….a lot. Inevitably, every trip planned with me involved surrounds food, drinks, more food and then plans for the next meal. My best friend who so graciously planned the majority of our trip to St. John this past November is the same way (match made in heaven).  First order of business for planning a trip is restaurant research. The small island of only a couple thousand people truly gives you the laid back feel you search for in a tropical vacation. In terms of dining, St. John has everything from hole-in-the-wall bars to upscale restaurants with panoramic views of the water.  We were fortunate to experience both ends of the spectrum on our trip. The list I have compiled below is condensed because if I listed every delicious meal we had or snack we bought on the island, you’d be reading for days. So I will spare you the novel […]

Weekend Rundown

Happy Monday everyone!  Another weekend has come and gone but this one was jam packed with friends and family activity with a bit of work thrown in as well. ‘Tis busy season!! Friday was a girls’ night at my best friend’s house with her little bundle of adorableness adding to the trio. These girls are more like sisters and it’s not often enough that we can all 3 get together anymore since we are all living our busy adult lives. Needless to say, it was a refreshing night!  Saturday morning I got up early and hung around the house with an oversized cup of coffee and finally finished my Bookcase Makeover which I have been trying to find time to finish forever.  I followed this up with the more mundane weekend “chores” and baking that I knew I wouldn’t have time for on Sunday. I honestly don’t know how a family of more […]

Bookshelf Makeover

When I was younger, my parents were nice enough to let me rearrange my furniture and paint my room a different color every summer. I truly commend them on having such faith in me and some of my closest friends to get the job done without one of us falling off a ladder or spilling the galloon of paint on the white carpet. BUT ALAS, we had good fortune and nothing too damaging ever happened. A few dribbles on the carpet and strategically painted streaks in our hair never hurt anyone, right?  You could say this is where my love of painting originated. My 12 year old self looked forward to it every year. I left on a high note with a shade of lavender that really showed my maturity over the original Tiffany blue motif I had going on.  Fast forward to present day and my apartment life which severely limits […]

What I Wore (Go-To Leggings)

I can’t even begin to guess the amount of times I’ve worn these leggings since I purchased them on sale a couple seasons back (no shame here…). The key is to have them meet some new pieces in my wardrobe to bring them to life and keep me current.  These booties are my jam right now. Wearing them on repeat.  This shirt feels like you’re wearing your boyfriends’ oversized t-shirt because it’s that super comfy jersey material AND as an added bonus, it covers the booty. Because nobody likes wearing leggings with a short shirt.  So much green in this post!  Details: Top: Bcbgeneration Leggings: Last Call (Similar) Necklace: J Crew Booties: DSW Sunglasses: J Crew Earrings: Nordstrom Happy Wednesday everyone!

Simple Pumpkin Soup for Two

My favorite part about this recipe is that it’s completely from scratch. It allows you to pick your own pumpkin you find most appetizing out of the bunch and bring it home as the base of your dish. For this recipe, I used a “pie pumpkin” that was quite small but we are only cooking for 2 in our house. Trust me, you guys are seriously going to love this soup.  The bulk of ingredients above. This recipe is vegetarian friendly and paleo friendly. You can’t go wrong! A friendly tip: Roughly 2 Cups of cubed pumpkin is equal to 1 cup canned. You can also make the recipe with canned pumpkin but it eliminates the excitement of picking your our pumpkin to cook up and the feeling of accomplishment from cutting the pumpkin successfully without any injuries!    Ingredients: 2 tbsp. Extra Virgin Olive Oil 1 Pumpkin- Cubed into about 3 […]

Weekend Rundown

Nothing on the schedule yet so productive. That’s exactly how this past weekend went down. I was pretty bad about taking pictures of our everyday happenings but I have a fun project in the works (hint: it’s my built-in bookshelf makeover) for a DIY blog post later this week.  I was supposed to be in NYC visiting friends but the trip was postponed until further notice. This left me with a wide open schedule and lots of time to plot, plan and prep for exciting things to come on Root + Revelry and also with my husband’s hobby turned side gig. We spent some time on Sunday taking pictures for his website and in the process worked on detailing some cars. Bailey turned out to be quite the model shop dog: Some other highlights from the weekend included visiting my nephew, outdoor Happy Hour on Friday night (yay for nice […]

Spiked Apple Cider [Friday Cocktails]

Happy Friday everyone! Dreaming of an end-of-the-week libation? I’m hands down a Cocktail over Wine type girl. Perhaps it’s the fun combinations of ingredients or the fact that wine gives me terrible headaches…but cocktails are queen. Side note: I keep wishing the wine aversion away way but nothing seems to work-it’s really such a bummer. So for me, it’s mixed drinks all the way.  Just like a great restaurant menu, a great cocktail should be seasonal. This particular drink makes me wants to be cozied up in a blanket in front of a campfire with a s’mores on the way.  Hope everyone enjoys my favorite seasonal cocktail: Spiked (and spiced!) Apple Cider.  Ingredients: 4 ounces Spiced Apple Cider  4 ounces Ginger Beer 1 ounce Fireball Whiskey  1/4 Teaspoon Cinnamon Dash of Pumpkin Spice 1/2 Orange Method: Fill your cocktail shaker halfway with ice. Add Fireball, Apple Cider, Cinnamon and Pumpkin Spice  over ice. Squeeze the […]
