Weekend Rundown

This weekend was eventful and busy but also felt slowed down because I’ve been sick since last Wednesday. womp womp. I severely slacked off in the photo taking department (minus a friends’ party on Saturday) and it’s a shame because it was a truly amazing weekend to capture!  Friday I shot home from work because I felt like my head was about to explode from whatever this illness I caught last week. The night was a lay on the couch, order our favorite take out, make popcorn and watch a movie kind of night. Although I’m realizing more and more that I do this pretty regularly even without having a cold!..I did some prep for our outting on Sunday and then went to bed. (Pretty uneventful :))  It could not have been a more perfect Fall day on Saturday. The morning was spent getting ready for one of my best friends’ gender […]

Sea Salt Chocolate Covered Banana Lollipops

I’ve had a real craving for all things chocolate and sea salt recently. Rather than go to a local chocolate shop to indulge in their most recent guilt ridden creation… I decided to make my own. This incredibly easy recipe requires only three ingredients and they are fairly common items that you probably already have laying around in your pantry. These tasty little bites on a lollipop stick are the perfect medium between indulgence and moderation. Who doesn’t love lollipop desserts?! Eating them is half the fun. Ingredients: 2 Cups Chocolate Chips (I used milk chocolate for this recipe) 3 TBSP Sea Salt 2 Bananas Additional item needed: Lollipop sticks which can be purchased at Michaels or a craft store Method: Prepare a baking sheet with parchment paper or aluminum foil.  Slice your bananas into 1/2 inch bites. Skewer the banana bites onto your lollipop sticks. Place the banana lollipops […]

What I Wore: Sweater Dress

I struck gold a few weekends ago when I was putting away my summer shoes and found a whole storage bin of my winter boots I forgot I owned…it actually made me feel somewhat guilty to have so many shoes sitting away without knowing I owned them. The good news: I have a plethora of boot options for this season! It also got me wanting to take another stab at rummaging through my closet to donate to Good Will again. Once I find time, it will be done! In the meantime, I will get full use out of my existing shoe collection and pair them with some new pieces in my closet. Prime example below in my What I Wore: Sweater Dress edition.  This past weekend was WINDY. I wore this dress out and then had to immediately go back inside to add a pair of leggings to be warm […]

Weekend Rundown: November Birthdays

I hope you all had a great weekend! As I type, I am enjoying a large cup of coffee while reflecting on a whirlwind weekend. I have a mug which reads “I really need a day between Saturday and Sunday” and I cannot agree more at this very moment. It’s increasingly difficult to have down time on the weekends with the holidays approaching and the amount of birthdays my friends and family celebrate this month. Cheers to November!  Friday night we had dinner to celebrate my mom’s 60th at Bastille in Old Town Alexandria. Food and Drink menu was amazing. They had a specialty drink menu which was election themed…I got a drink with absinth in it which might be necessary to repeat once the election results are in this week. I got a Rainbow Trout for my entree and I cleaned the plate which never happens so that’s a good indication of my satisfaction […]

Quinoa Stuffed Butternut Squash

The Holiday season is fast approaching and I want to share a Butternut Squash recipe that is sure to please the masses. It’s an easy to prepare dish with lots of flavor that will impress your guests and have them asking for a another helping! My favorite thing about this dish is the fact that it’s both delicious and nutritious.  Quinoa. It’s ever present in restaurants, cooking shows, online recipes and even commercials mocking people attempting to pronounce the darn word. I remember having trouble myself when I was first challenged with pronouncing it! KEENWAH. I won’t get into the plethora of health benefits this grain provides to you but I will say it’s a superfood and you should feel pretty darn good about incorporating it into your diet.  Did you know that studies have shown Orange to be the most appetizing color to people? Maybe that’s why Mac & Cheese is […]

What I Wore (Mossy)

We’re halfway through the week everyone! A big cheers to that and to a new What I Wore post. While deciding what to throw together this past weekend, I agreed it’s time to test the waters with the lace up style shirt. I opted for a more fitted version to go with the new flowy (is this a word?) skirt I have been loving since the moment I bought it. In my opinion, it is a match made in heaven. See the details below! The skirt is effortless to wear and can easily be paired with some warmer tights in the coming months!  My Mom brought me these earrings back from a trip to New Mexico. I wish I had a few more pairs to last me a lifetime because they’re so fun to add to an outfit for a pop of color.  The purse was a gift to myself after a nice little bonus I […]

Weekend Rundown

Happy Monday and Happy Halloween everyone! I hope everyone was able to partake in some spooky and festive things in this past weekend. I’m so excited to hand out candy this year to all the trick or treaters. Bailey even has her “old man” jacket to dress up and most likely just sit on the couch just as an old man would. But first, I reminisce on this past weekend which was chock full of good memories. Follow along below!  The image above is not my announcement but I AM the person behind the lens. Friday evening my best friend came over and we helped her take the images to use for her pregnancy announcement. It was a race against sunset but we did it! She posted it Saturday morning and I could not be happier for her. We get to meet this little one in April!  Five years ago I planned an impromptu camping trip […]

Currently

I am anxiously awaiting the start to the month which brings umpteen birthdays (including my own!) and Thanksgiving which is arguably the best holiday of the bunch. As I look forward to so many things in the coming weeks, I wanted to share some snippets of things currently going on in this life of mine.  Good grief, where do I begin? Anticipating: Thanksgiving in all it’s food loving glory. I think I’ll try a new side dish and dessert this year. Creme brûlée has always been on my list of things to try. Would I be totally shunned if this took place of pumpkin pie?… Watching: Election coverage…the position we’re in is amazing to me but I am not going to get all political on here 🙂  Listening: The The Lumineers newest album Cleopatra. I could listen to the song “Sleep on the Floor” on repeat for days. It makes me want to pack up our […]

Homemade Citrus Body Wash with Essential Oils

“Live life naturally”. It’s a broad statement encompassing a lot of different lifestyle choices. While thinking of the name for Root + Revelry, I wanted to include the notion of living life naturally in every way possible. People generally think of food, fitness and even mental state of mind when asked what this means to them. But let’s fact it, this phrase is a huge umbrella for a lot of things! Today, I share with you one quick and easy was to live a more holistic lifestyle with my Citrus Body Wash.  Making your own bathroom toiletries is incredibly easy and it’s nice to be able to choose your favorite scents! I am not bashing all store brought brands by any means. I am simply sharing a quick and easy alternative if you, like myself, question the ingredients in the conventional products.  Why not reduce the amount of chemicals your body is exposed to day in and day out?  Our […]
